February continues with the ominous Kaal Sarp yoga, and continues to be a complex month for relationships. By mid-February, we see a positive shift and the mood becomes somewhat lighter for now. The tides will continue to change next month, bringing in more transformation to the status quo, especially with relationships.
New Moon in Capricorn on February 1
We start the month with a new moon in the early morning hours of Feb 1st. The new moon takes place in Capricorn in the nakshatra of Shravan at approx. 18 degrees, close to where Saturn is situated. This may be a difficult new moon phase due to Saturn’s presence, aspect of Rahu, and the moon as usual devoid of light.
Whatever came up on the Cancer full moon in mid-Jan could be a reason for reflection at this time. We are also still operating under the kaal sarp phenomenon, so for many people, there may be a feeling of being stuck. This is especially felt by the cardinal signs, including Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn. The new moon however is flanked between Jupiter and Venus in adjacent signs so there is some outside support regardless of the challenges that come up.
Mercury goes direct on February 4
On Feb 4th, we see Mercury going direct in Capricorn, along with a conjunction of the Sun and Saturn, also in Capricorn. Mercury connecting closely with Pluto means we could be pondering some serious matters at this time. You may feel some doom and gloom at this time, though remember thinking is a tool for insight into reality, it is not reality itself.
With so much emphasis on Capricorn where Saturn has been transiting the general mood at this time can be heavy and serious. This serious, heavy tone will continue till April because there is a lot of concentration in Saturn’s signs of Capricorn and Aquarius till then. See where these two signs fall in your chart to understand where you will be impacted.
Many people will be facing the sort of issues where you may feel stuck and have to surrender for the time being – either because others have the upper hand or there is no clear direction in sight. Rahu’s aspect on Capricorn can exaggerate and augment some of these issues at this time. But Mercury going direct will help complex situations as it will open up the channels of clear communication.
Ketu moves into Vishaka on Feb 8th till Oct 18th
Ketu will move into Vishaka from Anuradha on Feb 8th and stay there till Oct 18th. This is a positive move, Ketu in Anuradha would have compounded relationship problems. Now with it moving through Vishaka you may be confronted with two paths, two equally good choices.
This could manifest in relationships, career, where you live, any area of life, see where Scorpio and Libra fall in your chart.
Mars and Venus Together
On Feb 13th, we will see a long lasting Mars-Venus conjunction become exact in Sagittarius that spills into Capricorn and carries on till April. This can bring some problems with travel and if you started a new course of study, you may have to adjust your plans.
There could be fights and confrontations in rels. as well and passionate feelings can also come to the fore. This will directly impact Venus and Mars ruled signs. Taurus and Gemini will feel it the most, so see what you have in these signs.
During February, this conjunction takes place in Purva Ashada nakshatra. Here, there is a theme of detoxification and cleansing, and Sagittarius signifies taking a new path. So, there could be a breakdown or breakup at this time. This will not be a surprise though as this has been building up for a while now.
This is a good time for letting go of toxic rels, doing a detox /cleanse of any kind, quitting a job, or giving up a bad habit. This conjunction carries on for several weeks and remains very close in Sag till Feb 26th.
Sun moves into Aquarius on February 13
On the same day, Feb 13th, the Sun makes its monthly move into Aquarius, where it joins its friend Jupiter, so this is a much better transit for the Sun than we have seen in a long time. And it will only get better with Sun’s movement into Pisces and Aries.
Now, it has moved out of the gaze of Rahu and the conjunction with Saturn. And the only aspect it receives now is from Jupiter. This is good news for all Leos and for those in Sun dasha.
Full Moon in Leo on February 16
On the eve of Feb 16th, we have a full moon in approx 3 degrees in Leo in the nakshatra of Magha. This full moon is aspected by Jupiter and connects with Sun via house placement and Ketu via nakshatra. Both are well placed and strong at this time.
Magha is connected to the Pitris, to your ancestors – especially the father’s side of the family, and especially those that have passed away. It’s a good time to connect with those ancestors through prayers and rituals. Jupiter’s aspect makes this time even more auspicious
Saturn moves into Dhanishta on February 17 till March 15, 2023
On the next day, on Feb 17th, we will experience a shift with Saturn moving into Dhanishta for 14 months. Dhanishta signifies wealth, upward mobility, building higher associations through networks.
Dhanistha also symbolises the drums, sound, basically the rhythm of the universe so Saturn transiting here reinforces the message of being in tune. In tune with others, in tune with nature, and our environment. This transit can make more people become environmentally conscious – changing our lifestyles, the food we eat, products we use, and adopting alternative lifestyles etc.
Saturn moving here can mean growth through hard work, some obstacles, but long-lasting results being this is a dignified placement for Saturn. We have to of course pay attention to Mars’ ongoing transit to see how this will manifest since the controlling planet of Dhanishta is Mars.
When Mars moves into exaltation, this can bring a time of material growth but not without some opposition from others due to the stellium taking place in Capricorn
Mars moves into Capricorn on Feb 26th till April 7th
Mars moves into its exaltation sign of Cap on Feb 26th till April 7th. At this time, all the planets are congregated in two signs only, Capricorn and Aquarius.
This is also known as the Sankhya-yuga yoga where two houses contain all the planets. Sankhya essentially shows the separation between spirit and matter – when the illusions that we live with become more pronounced and apparent. This can create imbalances in your material life – esp the case since we are talking about Capricorn, which signifies the basic necessities in life.
And the imbalances can become so difficult to tolerate that one is compelled to seek a spiritual perspective to make sense of them. But with Mars and Saturn dignified, we can come up with solutions and forge ahead
Venus moves into Capricorn from Feb 27 till March 30
A day after Mars, Venus moves into Capricorn on Feb 27th, creating a five planet stellium in Capricorn, if you count Pluto it will be six.
We will again experience the Venus/Pluto conjunction except this time Mars is in the middle heating things up, with the Moon close by too. Uttara Ashada is where all the action is taking place, again not a good omen for relationships.
Generally speaking, this does not bode well for relationships – especially with Mars being more dominant here. Also, both the watery planets, Moon and Venus are in a compromised position. To further exaggerate and expand this energy, we have the close aspect of Rahu.
Relationships will go through a deep transformation till April. By April, the landscape will also change entirely with all slow-moving planets shifting signs. Overall it’s a complex month but second half much better than first half.
