June is a significant month in 2020 and will bring big shifts: first half is chaotic and second half we get some clarity.  We experience two eclipses, and we see Jupiter returning to his own sign of Sagittarius, a blessing for many.  Venus finally moves direct and we can see some forward momentum in all matters related to money and relationships.

Sun Combusts Venus on June 3

On June 3, Venus comes into total combustion with the Sun at 20° Taurus, receiving an exact aspect from Mars in Aquarius. This is an immense amount of fire energy on our watery Venus, signaling perhaps an intense time ahead with regards to public policies, relationships and living the good life. Mars represents law enforcement and Aquarius is the masses, so we see the uprising here; however, the Sun, symbolic of the government, will attempt to overpower, rather than use negotiation and diplomacy.  So, this is a troubled state for a combust, retrograde Venus.  Though the situation will improve mid-month onwards.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio in the nakshatra of Jyestha on June 5

We have two eclipses in June, and both are telling us to stay vigilant and remain cautious with all that is happening in the world.  We have a lunar eclipse taking place in Scorpio on Jun 5 at approx 7 pm UTC in the nakshatra of Jyestha, at 21 degrees.

Ketu will cause this eclipse although it will be 14 degrees away in Mula. Though the eclipse is far from Ketu, it is getting closely aspected by a combust, retrograde Venus in Rohini. This is not a good omen for relationships – it may bring a severing of ties if your relationship was already strained or stressed in some way. It may also lead to impulsive actions and hostility.

If you have personal planets close to the degree of the eclipse then you would be impacted the most. You could also feel the stress on the financial front as Venus signifies money, especially in Taurus, so income and savings could feel the hit. The key to handle the energies of this lunar eclipse is patience and will require extra effort to remain calm. All lunar eclipses can be emotionally challenging because the Moon is afflicted and here being in Scorpio, the Moon will feel insecure and edgy.  We may feel particularly vulnerable during this time. It is completely understandable if one’s intuition to hold back, to wait and see how things shake out, begins to loudly proclaim during this time.

Jyestha’s ruling planet is Mercury, well placed in Gemini at this time, however, is getting the aspect of Rahu, so it is best to exercise some caution.  Jyestha means “elder.” This could signify elder in experience or age or status.  Indra is the ruling deity of this nakshatra so it can suggest a powerful authority influencing our lives at this time where we have little say.  This can show up in the areas that are represented by Scorpio in your chart so see what Scorpio represents for you.

Jyestha is a star that gives strength of character, persistence, and focus.  It is a great time to take charge of your life and plan/organise for the next few months. In a positive framework, you can use this time to focus on your goals.

Sun Transits Gemini from June 14 till July 16

The Sun, the planet that rules our individual self-expression, is moving into Gemini on June 14 and about to be eclipsed by Rahu, situated there. For the week between June 14 and July 21, we will feel this eclipse energy intensely, so take precautions during this time.  It would be an excellent time to reflect, go inward, as the Moon is the darkest at this time.

For the entirety of the Sun transiting Gemini it is moving toward Mercury and Mercury going retrograde is moving toward the Sun.  Mercury, well placed in Gemini, its own sign, however, will experience combustion from June end for a week.  So, not the time to act.  Once we pass the July eclipse, we can start to take action and expect to get more solid results.  Most of June is best spent planning and re-organsing our lives so we can launch into action mid-July onward.

With the Sun in Gemini, we generally get to explore how individual needs and agendas tend to express in the context of communication, education and exchange of ideas.  With the nodal axis currently running across the zodiac from Gemini (Rahu) to Sagittarius (Ketu), this may be a very challenging time to express ourselves clearly. It may be difficult to fathom our own stance or to perceive the viewpoints of others.

Mercury Retrogrades in Gemini from June 18 till July 12

Just before the eclipse, Mercury goes retrograde, in his own sign, which is also the current residence of Rahu.  Mercury is strongly placed here. Mercury’s quick thinking, flexible nature, and analytical qualities, will help us all to rein in the chaos of Rahu.  However, this is also where the eclipse takes place, overpowering Mercury’s presence.

From mid-June to mid-July, with all of these factors combined, it may not be the most supportive time for establishing new businesses, signing contracts or making commitments. The astrological weather is forcing us to work with what we already have, reinvent ourselves, lighten our loads and innovate.

However, at this time, both Venus and Mercury are well placed and strong; these are our current helpers, especially as Jupiter is bogged down in a tough place with heavy company till July. Keep your spirits up, connect with friends, educate yourself, connect with nature and use good foods and wholesome choices to keep yourself immune in body, mind and spirit.

Mars Transits Pisces from June 18 till August 16

On the same day Mercury goes retrograde, Mars will move into Pisces for nearly a two-month transit.  Here, Mars will be getting the aspect of Saturn, giving Mars’ go-getter instincts some level of constraint.  Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, happier environment for Mars than Aquarius.  However, Jupiter is currently in a complex position.  It is debilitated yet it is retrograde so it will not give debilitated results, and further it is with Saturn, the owner of the sign Capricorn, who will give Jupiter a different quality, and thus, the results are not ‘Jupiterian.”  Rather, it is a calculating, and materialistic Jupiter here, which is beneficial for the uncertain times we are facing.  This supports making plans and being strategic in our thinking but withhold action till July.

Mars in Pisces will also be pushing his energy into the signs of Gemini, Virgo and Libra. These are the energetic signs of Mercury and Venus. We will be inspired to mobilize, make changes, form alliances and begin to sketch out strategies for how to attain a state of safety, wellness and stability. The trick is that we may be finding that stability has to be mobile and flowing in order to move with the times as the nature of Pisces is mutable. Generally, Mars’ prefers the element of fire to water, and can mean that our thoughts and actions will have a contemplative quality, which is appropriate for now.

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini in the nakshatra of Mrigashira on June 21

We have a solar eclipse taking place in Gemini on Jun 21 at approx 7 am UTC in the nakshatra of Mrigashira, at 6 degrees. This eclipse is caused by Rahu which is about 1 degree away so this makes it an intense eclipse indeed. We have Mercury about 14 degrees away in Gemini in the nakshatra of Punarvasu. We also have a close aspect from Mars situated in Pisces at this time, 10 houses away from Gemini.

Mars’ aspect is doubly important because it is the controlling planet of Mrigashira. Many people at this time will have their careers on their mind and with Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, retrograde, there may be adjustments, changes, and a lot of reflection about our careers and how we make money.  Communications could be muddled at this time creating chances of misunderstandings so check and double check all your communications, especially written ones.  It is not the best time to travel so wait till mid-July onward where possible.

While Rahu in Ardra may have birthed COVID-19, Rahu in Mrigashira will see the world redesigning the new normal, finding pathways toward safety, reconnecting supply lines, and rebuilding relationships.  Rahu moved to Mrigashira on May 20 and exits to Rohini in early 2021. This new Moon solar eclipse is calling for us to dig deep and move through the chaos and instability toward a place where we can envision a new paradigm.

Mrigashira is known as the ‘searching star’ which is another reason why this time is best for contemplation, reflection, and planning not to make big final decisions and movements especially connected to areas that are related to Gemini in your chart.  Some favourable activities include: arts, healing and rejuvenation, education, shifting home, moving to a new location, and communication.  Any creative pursuits are also favoured at this time.

A predominant tendency of Mrigshira is doubting everything, and being suspicious. So again, it is best to not make any big decisions at this time as you may not be getting the whole picture or seeing things clearly.  It is best spent simplifying your life if possible.

Venus Direct in Taurus on June 25

After weeks of retrograde motion, we will all feel relief when Venus moves forward in Taurus, her own earth sign, in the nakshatra of Rohini.  Venus is the indicator for relationships, luxury, beauty, food, creative productions, and contracts overall.  This will allow Venus to help us with matters related to our relationships which could have been forever altered during this heavy retrograde period.  We can also see some progress with finances now, perhaps some of us would have re-assessed how to make and save money.

This is a very positive transit for Venus, in its own sign of Taurus, it can help us connect to all our sensuous pleasures, including food, wine, sweets, art, crafts, beauty.  If you have been thinking of buying some clothes, this is an excellent transit for that.  Also an excellent time to connect with nature and find ways to rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit through this transformational time that is requiring deep work and courage for implementing change.

The nakshatra of Rohini will Venus will transit for the next few weeks symbolises growth so anything that we start related to what Venus signifies in our chart, will grow with time.  It is an abundant nakshatra, and connects with the Moon, so has a very nourishing energy.   So anything to nurture ourselves as this time would lead to positive outcomes.

Jupiter returns to Sagittarius from June 30 till November 20

Jupiter returns to his home sign of Sagittarius on June 30 and remains there till November 20.  This signals a welcome relief for all fire signs, including Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.  It is also a good placement for Gemini and Aquarius. Jupiter in Sagittarius will be more powerful to create positive change, away from a strongly placed Saturn, giving us all a window to learn and grow from the difficulty of the recent past that both retrograde Jupiter and Saturn are continuing to reveal.

It will remain retrograde in Sagittarius till September 13, when it starts to move direct.  This is an auspicious transit and will allow us to rebuild a strong foundation.  We have nearly five months to take advantage of a fantastic transit, by September, Jupiter will be exceptionally strong as it would have gone direct and the Nodal axis would have also shifted.

June 30 is celebrated as Devshayani Ekadashi, the time each year we begin the four-month rest period, known as “chaturmas.” This is traditionally a time for spiritual practices and rest which coincided with the monsoon season. This year in particular seems a great time to acknowledge this traditional view of the summer months.
